Report on this year's Annual
Supper and Presentation of Prizes. Unfortunately the images that were taken were not of very good quality but if I have used those that were suitable and managed to include images of all the major prize winners.

I have now added a lawn bowls coaching resource page. This can be accessed from the main menu on the left (secoond bottom item). If anyone has anything to contribute to this please let me know.

The finals of both the championship and the junior championship were played last night. Colin McIntyre proved to good for Jim Hughes in the big one and Irwin Barnes Jr. got the better of Jonathan Readhead in the juniors. Congratulations to them both and here's hoping they are successful in the Champion of Champions.
Note that the dates for the quiz nights have now been posted in the social section.

Rock Bowling Club Friendly: The first home friendly with the Rock Bowling Club took place at the Vale on Saturday 22 July. The game was played in sunshine and with temperatures hovering around 80 degrees Fahrenheit most of the Vale players seemed to be suffering from sunstroke or heat exhaustion. The president, George MacGaffin's rink came out on top for the Vale with the massive total of three shots up. We had another two rinks at one up and two up so the Rock won with a lot to spare. Perhaps George was authorised to dispense the additional hospitality required to overcome the opposition. Unfortunately I was too busy trying to avoid a heavy defeat in my own match to take any pictures. Well done to the Rock.
This friendly has evolved into one of the most popular of the season. It started as a challenge match two or three years ago and it has now evolved into a fixture card friendly. It takes place during the holiday period but we still manage to get more than enough players to fill the required eight rinks. This says a lot for the friendliness that exists between the Jeelyeaters and the Cocos so long may it continue.

Sam Gorman's Successful Friday night draw continues to go from strength to strength. Ensure that you are "on" every Friday by buying your £1.00 ticket in the clubhouse. Well done to Sam for his efforts in making this a success.

We have continued our great record in the County Cup by winning the trophy again this year on Saturday 24 June. We finished with four winning teams, 8 points and plus 36 shots. This follows our resounding victory the previous Saturday in the Dumbarton Associated Clubs Centenary Cup. Congratulations to all the players involved.

County Junior Team now also Starts Campaign with no Vale Members
As recorded earlier the county team chose not to select any Vale members for
their 2006 starting line up. I now understand that none of our junior members
have been selected for the junior team. We have several young and proven
bowlers at the Vale that the County already know well.
As I understand it some
of them committed themselves very well last season. This makes their omission
this year even less easy to comprehend. It really makes one wonder what we have
done wrong?

County Team Starts Campaign with no Vale Members Again
The West Dunbartonshire county team for
this year's Scottish Counties Championship (the Andrew Hamilton Trophy) has been
selected and once again they start their campaign with NO Vale
of Leven players. Obviously I have more than a passing interest in this but it
does seem strange that a club like the Vale and its 240 full
members are deemed not
good enough while much smaller clubs can provide six or more players. Maybe we
need more practice or is it just that we need someone pulling for us on the county
committee?
The county team needs good players in all positions.
Recent results have not been good and some of the selections have been strange.
I have first hand experience of the players in the county team and while
there are several standouts amongst them there are others who are not so good.
We also have some stand outs here at the Vale but I suppose this means nothing
without someone pulling for us on the selection committee. Sad but true!
