Note: I am unable to cover all events that take place in the club. This is why reporting in here is a bit hit or miss. I would be happy to upload reports and
images from other members who are willing to help with this. Please feel free to send me your contributions.

I have finally gotten around to uploading the information about the annual supper. I was not able to attend so there is no report but the images of programme
and prizewinners are now
there.

The spreadsheet with the player's statistics has been updated with the results for 2008. For some reason the triples competition was omitted in previous years. It should have been
included as it is one of the competitions that are open to all members so it has been added. Unfortunately the previous four years data is not available.

The winter social program has been updated. The social committee and others have arranged a great program of events, quiz nights and cabarets for you. Check
out the program now.

Please note that the Burns Supper date has now been finalised. It will be on Friday 13th February 2009, not Friday 6th February as orginally reported.
27 August 2008 - Championship Final Report
This years championship final was played on Wednesday evening, 27th August. A reasonable crowd appeared to watch James Crichton and Ian Robb in the match despite the weather,
which fortunately turned out fine for all concerned.
Both players took two or three ends to find their weight but James went into an early lead by 5 shots to 2. On the very next end Ian scored a full house to take
the lead at 6-5. From that point on he looked in control of the situation although no real gaps appeared on the scorecard until he went ahead at 12-7.
James rallied again and scored a three at the next end to close the gap once again but Ian was relentless, particularly on the one hand, which he had fully mastered.
They swapped shots again for the next two or three ends but with the score at 16-13 to Ian he lay 4 shots. James had one bowl left, he drove at the head and was perhaps a little unlucky to
only remove two of the four shots.
Ian was now on 18 and he finished the game at the next end with a 3 after once again playing some superb bowls, which try as he may James could not match.
Ian
never lost the lead after he had gone 6-5 ahead. This was not down to bad play by James, who on the evening probably played well enough to win most matches, but Ian was just too good on this
occasion. Congratulations to our new champion - Ian Robb.

I received the following email from Hugh McDonald of Stronvaar BC regarding a success by Paul Brechin.
"Hello Vale,
I just received this attached photo from Golden Charter who sponsor our "Doon the Water" Pairs, a 40 pairs event that we hold during Glasgow Fair. You might be interested
that Paul Brechin who is one of yours and a "Wee Toony" to boot, won the competition as lead to one of our Past Presidents, James McCallum.
Paul was very much a credit to your Club.
Hugh MacDonald
Secretary, Campbeltown BC."
Well done Paul.

Better late than never! I forgot to mention the beautifully refurbished lounge on the opening day report. The refurbishment work took place in March, in time for the start of the new season. The previous lounge furniture had served us well over the previous (almost) 30 years so we were due a refit. The bar has been named "The Oak Tree" after the old oak tree that once stood on the spot where we now have the fountain in Alexandria.

The design of the original
club badge includes the old oak tree that used to stand at
the location of the fountain in Alexandria.
This was cut
down in 1865 but a piece of it was preserved and made into
two vases which remain in the club house to this day. |
