VOLBC CHARITY DAY 2008
The annual charity day, organised by Stephen Readhed, was held on Sunday 6 July. A good turn out of 28 full rinks from around the area enjoyed a full days bowling. The weather was mixed during the day with the unseasonally cold summer still in evidence, but it did not affect the players who were all seen to be having a great time in this now very popular event. Play was on a round robin format, i.e. from skip to lead, lead to second for five ends each game.
At midday a spider was played. A jack was placed centre of green, all players play one bowl and the nearest man & woman to the jack each won a bottle.
The day’s final was between a team from Colgrain B.C. (Rosemary Drylie, Janet Moorhouse, Andrew McKechnie and Ian McGreath). The other finalists were a home team, (Eric & Marian Grey & Ann & Alistair Haughey). After a closely contested game Alistair Haughey’s team prevailed to win this year's competition.

VOLBC expresses their sincere gratitude to the players for their support, the sponsors and helpers that made the day a great success. St Margaret’s Hospice will receive £1700.

After the bowling activities were completed the normal prize draw took place when the lucky winners got to chose from a terrific array of prizes, many of which had been donated. Our thanks are due to all of those who contributed.
