Opening Day 2009

Another highly enjoyable opening day took place at the Vale of Leven Bowling Club on Saturday 11th April 2009. The weather forecast proved to be correct and everyone enjoyed a nice sunny afternoon.

Ernest JohnsonPast president David Nicolson welcomed everyone to before introducing the invited guests. These included SBA Junior Vice President Ernest Johnston.

David invited Ernie to say a few words before handing over the presidential badge of office to our new president Brian Wilson.

Brian introduced three of the six new members to the company and welcomed them to the club.

The opening coincided with the Easter holiday this year and the others (John Harkins, Robbie McKenzie & Jim Park) were unable to attend.

Brians's wife, Anne then threw the first bowls of the season and declared the greens open for 2009.

Opening of the Bowling Green

After the ceremonial events a game of nine ends was organised in glorious sunshine.

The winning rink was skipped by our current champion Ian Robb, third Ken Robertson (guest), second John Deignan (guest) & lead Tom McRae, - score 13 – 3.

An excellent buffet was served to members and guests after the game. Our thanks once again go to the committee for organising another successful opening day.
