2006 Open Triples Tournament

Once again the club hosted a successful open triples competition. We thank David Muir Estate Agents for once again being the main sponsor. This year we are also grateful for the additional sponsorship from Toucher Web Design UK and Peter Rodgers, Builders.

The weather this year was not exactly kind to us but it could have been worse. The showers that we "enjoyed" throughout the day did nothing to affect the greens so play was as exciting as ever with four closely contested sections.

I know! It's probably the only trophy I'll touch this year apart from the Wooden Spoon.

The tournament involved four sections of eight teams playing each other on a league basis with the top team in each section qualifying for the semi finals. As usual nothing was decided until the last sectional games had been completed with teams from Colgrain Bowling Club, Townend Bowling Club, Helensburgh and the Vale eventually winning through to the semi final stages.

After two entertaining semis the final was contested by the Vale of Leven team of Irwin Barnes Jr, Alan (Bruiser) Bruce and Old Jim Hughes versus the Townend team of Ian McKee, Jack Docherty and David Cole. The Vale never quite got to grips with this match and Townend eventually ran out worthy winners. This was an achievement made even more significant by the fact that they actually retained the title after winning it last year.
