Ladies' Bowling at the Vale
The Vale of Leven Bowling Club
Ladies' Section was formed in 1923 when
15 members' wives managed to get their menfolk to allow them the use of the
east green for one afternoon per week. An annual subscription
of 5 shillings (25p) was charged for membership.
The first lady champion was a
Mrs. Taig who was awarded the princely sum of £1.00
from the men's committee. This doesn't sound like much but
to put it in context it was four times the annual subs.

The first recorded A.G.M. of the Ladies' Section
was held in the clubhouse on 28 April 1926, when Mrs. J Rogers
was elected President. By 1935 the membership had risen to 25 and
it was agreed that they should join the newly formed Scottish Women's
Bowling Association.
Since these early days the Ladies Section has gone
from strength to strength. They are one of the most competitive
clubs in the district and provide a full quota of players for all
the annual representative games.
Note: If any of the ladies would like to contribute material or content for this section I will be happy to include it. Contact me if you would like to do so.
